Production & Broadcast Technical Support Specialist

About the Role

The Production & Broadcast Technical Support Specialist will operate within Northwestern University in Qatar's Production & Digital Media Services Department. This position requires managing the installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of sophisticated media technology, including photography and digital cinema equipment, TV broadcast, and multimedia systems. Supporting classroom technology use, the specialist will provide training and technical help to both faculty and students, featuring equipment like Canon and RED Cinema cameras, DSLR cameras, ENG systems, and advanced lighting tools such as Aladdin Bi-flex and ARRI Skypanels. The role also involves video editing using Adobe Creative Suite programs, particularly Premiere Pro and After Effects. Flexibility in work hours including evenings or weekends is expected.

Responsibilities

• Manage and maintain NU-Q media production facilities across photography, digital cinema (Canon, Sony, GoPro, RED), studio and field lighting (Arri, Aputure, ETC), podcast setups, TV, and news production systems.
• Perform diagnostic checks, maintain, repair, and install media equipment as needed.
• Assist faculty in preparing course materials and associated technology setups.
• Oversee the production equipment storage area, handling check-ins, check-outs, and managing the WebCheckout ticketing platform.
• Conduct in-class training sessions and offer individualized guidance to faculty, students, and guest lecturers on media production tools.
• Evaluate emerging media technologies for potential adoption and recommend integration strategies.
• Collaborate with IT to maintain networked computer systems and media software, including Adobe Creative Suite, ENPS, and WebCheckout.
• Stay informed on media technology advances through continuing education and professional resources.
• Create and maintain workflows, documentation, and user manuals for equipment usage.
• Assess equipment damage, advise on repair or replacement costs, and coordinate necessary actions.
• Perform other duties assigned by the Manager of Production Operations.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in production, media technology, or an equivalent field, combined with significant relevant industry experience.
• At least 3 years of related hands-on professional experience in media production.
• Prior experience in teaching or training environments, either formal or within organizations.
• Strong analytical abilities and the capacity to manage technical issues.
• Physically capable of moving and setting up equipment weighing up to 20 kg (44 lbs).
• Excellent organizational skills, proactive mindset, and the ability to work independently.
• Experienced with both PC and Mac platforms, including Mac OS X and Adobe editing software.
• Fluent English language skills; fluency in Arabic and knowledge of Qatari culture are advantageous.

Preferred Additional Qualifications

• 4-6 years of experience within media production or training roles.
• Experience working in an academic institution or higher education setting.
• Proficiency with Mac-based media production software such as Final Cut Studio and Adobe Creative Suite.
• Expertise in preparing instructional materials and resources for media technology usage.
• Knowledge in network technologies for troubleshooting IT and AV system challenges.
• Experience or knowledge in web design.

Compensation and Equal Opportunity

The annual salary range for this position is $51,346 to $65,958, offer contingent upon the candidate’s education, experience, skills, and internal equity considerations.
