About the Role
Sobeys, a large grocery retail company with over 1,500 stores across Canada operating under various banners, is seeking a Produce Clerk for an independently owned and operated franchise location in North Bay, Ontario. This role plays a vital part in maintaining a well-stocked produce department to ensure customers enjoy a smooth, efficient shopping experience that fosters loyalty. Complete training will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Adhere strictly to company policies, standards, and procedures in all circumstances.
- Welcome customers in a courteous and friendly manner.
- Deliver excellent customer service reflecting Safeway’s customer programs.
- Stock produce, including frozen, perishable, and non-perishable goods, onto shelves.
- Create and maintain attractive merchandise displays that align with Safeway’s guidelines.
- Perform rotation of products to ensure freshness.
- Load and unload products for display on the sales floor.
- Manage backroom organization and control inventory.
- Operate cash registers periodically to provide coverage during busy hours.
- Complete additional duties assigned by the Store Manager.
Qualifications and Skills
- No prior experience is necessary as full training is provided.
- Aptitude for quick learning.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced setting.
- Highly motivated with a cooperative, team-oriented attitude.
- Clear and effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Strong commitment to excellent customer service.
- Prioritize safety and responsible work practices.
- Willingness and availability to work flexible hours including weekends, with open availability highly encouraged.
Physical Demands
- Continuous lifting of items up to 20 pounds.
- Continuous reaching and gripping movements.
- Frequent bending, walking, standing, twisting, pushing, and pulling motions.
- Occasional lifting of items weighing between 20-50 pounds.
- Periodic use of computer systems and point of sale terminals.
- Occasional crouching, kneeling, and squatting.
