About AbbVie and the Role

The Westport facility, a leading site in AbbVie's global network, is renowned for its expertise in aseptic fill-finish operations. This dynamic center supports a diverse pipeline of new products, technology transfers, and development projects in both small and large molecule areas.
The Process Scientist will join the Eyecare Technical Centre, supporting units focused on Eyecare Unit Dose, Multi Dose, and Implants. This role offers an exciting chance to contribute significantly to the development and delivery of pioneering ophthalmic products on a global scale within a collaborative scientific and technical environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide leadership aligning the Westport site activities with AbbVie's global strategies and mission.
- Lead multidisciplinary teams across Operations, Global Program Management, PQA, and Process Development to ensure timely technology transfers and readiness for product launches.
- Act as the chief technical expert resolving manufacturing challenges through data-driven root cause analysis.
- Manage complex Non-Conformance Reports within the Eyecare portfolio.
- Plan and implement process and technology enhancement programs, including initiatives aimed at cost reduction.
- Oversee portfolio changes such as raw material modifications, batch size alterations, new technologies, and supplier changes.
- Represent the site at customer and regulatory meetings and during audits.
- Guarantee compliance with GMP and relevant internal and external policies and SOPs.
- Drive digital transformation efforts within Eyecare and Implants operations, contributing to tracking and monitoring initiatives.
- Support process equipment commissioning and qualification in collaboration with engineering teams.
- Advocate for process safety improvements across relevant operations.
- Mentor and develop staff, promoting a culture of cross-departmental learning and high performance.
- Assist in financial aspects including budgeting, strategic project support, and realizing cost improvements.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum bachelor's degree in scientific or engineering disciplines; advanced degrees (Master's or PhD) preferred.
- Relevant pharmaceutical industry experience: at least 8 years for bachelor's degree holders, 7 years for master's, and 5 years for doctorate holders.
- In-depth experience managing full product transfer and launch cycles, including regulatory interactions.
- Strong expertise in pharmaceutical manufacturing processes with demonstrated abilities in troubleshooting and problem-solving.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and teamwork skills enabling effective collaboration across various functions including Commercial, Operations, Global, and R&D.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-moving environment and adapt to changing priorities.
