Role Overview
The Community Corrections unit is tasked with supervising adults sentenced to community-based orders or released on parole by the Parole Board of Queensland. The primary purpose is to safeguard communities by encouraging positive behavioral changes in offenders, helping them lead productive, crime-free lives.
Key Responsibilities
As a Probation Services Officer, you will uphold community safety by ensuring offenders adhere to reporting requirements and comply with conditions of their community-based and reparation orders. This includes supervising and managing offender cases, performing court administrative duties, and maintaining active engagement with community organizations and stakeholders to facilitate sustainable community service projects.
Essential Requirements
- Proven planning and organizational capabilities to independently or collaboratively complete tasks within specified deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills to effectively engage with diverse internal and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated sensitivity and confidentiality awareness in handling sensitive information, with strict compliance to related legislation on privacy.
- Effective communication skills, including the ability to conduct challenging conversations, problem-solve, and negotiate constructive outcomes.
Additional Conditions and Qualifications
- While there is no strict qualification requirement, applicants with degrees in human services fields will be highly valued.
- A valid C class driver's license is essential, especially in designated locations requiring official travel.
- New permanent or temporary employees must complete a Certificate IV in Correctional Practice (Community) within 12 months and obtain certification within 18 months of employment commencement.
- Required training includes urinalysis testing, court duties, and any additional job-related training specified by the Delegate in the district.
- Given the regional location of this role, eligibility for the Remote Area Incentive Scheme (RAIS) may apply. Interested candidates should inquire accordingly.
