Opportunity Overview

Join Mott MacDonald in Auckland as a Principal Structural Engineer and play a pivotal role within our growing Buildings team. Lead the planning, design, and delivery of durable, safe, and efficient structural projects that positively impact communities across New Zealand and the Asia Pacific region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Spearhead structural engineering design and technical aspects for diverse building and infrastructure initiatives.
  • Take leadership roles as discipline lead or project engineer on projects varying in size and complexity.
  • Conduct technical reviews and quality checks on drawings, specifications, calculations, and reports to ensure excellence.
  • Collaborate with architects, clients, contractors, and cross-disciplinary teams to develop feasible, sustainable, and constructible solutions.
  • Mentor engineers at various career stages, fostering skill development and confidence within the team.
  • Engage in proposal creation, client relations, and expanding our structural engineering services across New Zealand.
  • Support construction phases through site inspections, design modifications, and technical consultation as needed.
  • Promote teamwork, digital innovation, safety in design, and continuous process improvements.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A tertiary degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or a closely related field.
  • Substantial background in structural engineering design, preferably in consulting settings.
  • In-depth understanding of New Zealand’s structural design codes, seismic design principles, and building practices.
  • Proven success leading design through early concept, detailed development, and construction stages.
  • Ability to conduct thorough technical assessments ensuring high-quality project outcomes.
  • Excellent communication and client management aptitude combined with a collaborative mindset.
  • A commitment to mentoring professionals at all levels within the team.
  • Chartered Professional Engineer accreditation is highly desirable or advancement towards achieving it.
