Job description
Your Impact
The Principal Software Engineer plays a critical role in shaping and advancing our system architecture through Distributed Domain Driven Design methodologies. This position ensures our platforms' robustness and scalability while providing architectural guidance embedded within project teams, promoting best practices and design patterns.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the definition and continuous development of architecture by applying Distributed Domain Driven Design approaches.
- Serve as the strategic leader for key Architecture Quality Attributes, including Availability, Performance, Scalability, and Security, guiding architecture evaluations.
- Provide embedded architectural consultation to projects, fostering the adoption of best practices, design patterns, and informed build versus buy decisions.
- Contribute to improving platform capabilities, prioritizing enhancements across both feature and data platforms.
- Advance the automation and innovation in capturing and communicating architectural descriptions.
- Champion platform-wide strategies regarding naming conventions, protocol standards, and design patterns to sustain ongoing value creation.
- Clearly and effectively communicate complex technical concepts both verbally and in writing to diverse audiences, ensuring stakeholder alignment.
Candidate Profile
- Possess over 15 years of relevant professional experience.
- Proven experience handling large-scale distributed technical architectures with critical uptime and reliability requirements.
- Familiarity with Big Data technologies such as ElasticSearch, NoSQL databases, Kafka, columnar databases, data flow or pipeline frameworks, and graph data stores.
- Experienced in using common infrastructure services including Enterprise Message Bus platforms, configuration management, feature toggle systems, and observability tools like logging and distributed tracing.
- Strong understanding and practical application of Domain Driven Design concepts including bounded contexts, event storming, and specification by example.
- Expertise in designing, implementing, and operating data-intensive distributed systems.
- Skilled in architecting and articulating internal and external views of well-encapsulated systems such as service-oriented architectures, Docker-based services, or microservices, utilizing architecture/design patterns and sequence diagrams.
- Proficient in Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) practices with focus on automation tools like Terraform, Jenkins, and CodePipeline.
- Knowledgeable in API and data model design and implementation with considerations for scalability and availability.
- Experienced across multiple software technology stacks.
- Competent in designing and managing software within cloud environments including AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
- Understanding of algorithm design for intensive pipeline processing systems.
- Awareness of security design principles and best practices.
- Able to identify, select, and adapt third-party components (commercial or open source) that offer operational leverage while preserving product and engineering flexibility.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with designing, adjusting, and managing multi-tenant systems.
- Experience utilizing feature or release toggles as part of a branching strategy for code.
