Overview
Wood is seeking an experienced Principal Project Engineer to contribute to our growing operations in Qatar. The role focuses on delivering projects across the full spectrum of FEED, Pre-FEED, Brownfield and Greenfield assignments with an emphasis on both onshore and offshore oil and gas sectors. The engineer will ensure that projects proceed according to execution plans while prioritizing safety, quality, cost, and schedule goals. This is a long-term opportunity based remotely in Doha.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and uphold safety and quality standards by following Wood's policies and project procedures, fostering a culture of health, safety, and environmental responsibility.
- Manage assigned project scopes with ownership, ensuring delivery aligns with contract specifications and timelines.
- Work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams and support functions to interpret and meet project requirements.
- Serve as Proposal, Study, or Project Manager for small to medium projects under senior guidance.
- Coordinate multidiscipline engineering inputs across various locations, including high-volume and specialist centers.
- Approve key project deliverables and ensure compliance with quality standards.
- Develop and manage essential project documentation such as Project Execution Plans, Basis of Design, risk assessments, schedules, and procurement scopes.
- Lead project reviews, design audits, and technical meetings, ensuring effective communication and issue resolution.
- Conduct site surveys and prepare detailed reports for brownfield projects.
- Identify and manage project risks and change controls throughout the project lifecycle.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
- At least 10 years of relevant experience in the oil and gas industry, preferably with experience in both onshore and offshore environments.
- Registration as Grade A or B Engineer in Qatar is advantageous.
- Project management certifications such as PMP or APM are highly regarded.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office for documentation, scheduling, and presentations.
- Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and communicate effectively to achieve project goals.
- Experience managing risk, change, and costs throughout multiple project phases including design, construction, and commissioning.
- Knowledge of project documentation and engineering standards such as HAZID, P&ID, HAZOP, SIL, and more.
- Familiarity with local regulations and standards including Shell DEPs, Qatar Civil Defence, and Qatar Construction Standards is desirable.
- Experience mentoring junior engineers and building collaborative teams.
Additional Requirements
- Availability to work in Doha from September/October 2022.
- Ability to operate independently and remotely, taking full ownership of assigned tasks.
- Experience working in a small project office environment supporting multiple engineering disciplines.
- Willingness to participate in onshore and offshore site surveys, with relevant certifications or the readiness to acquire them.
- Fluency in written and spoken English, capable of interpreting complex technical documents.
