Role Responsibilities
- Serve as the Subject Matter Expert in piping dynamic stress analysis and vibration engineering.
- Conduct and verify piping stress assessments, both dynamic and static, using CAESAR II or similar tools.
- Evaluate piping systems for parameters such as natural frequency, resonance, mode shapes, dynamic stress, and fatigue.
- Analyze effects from equipment like pumps, compressors, reciprocating machines, and transient events including PSV/PRV operations.
- Assess and propose mitigation for dynamic phenomena such as water hammer, steam hammer, slug flow, flow-induced and acoustically induced vibrations.
- Examine piping layouts to identify where dynamic and vibration analyses are necessary.
- Develop and refine designs for dynamic supports, including guides, anchors, snubbers, and restraints.
- Calculate and assess dynamic forces and moments impacting supporting structures and connected equipment.
- Verify equipment nozzle load compliance with project, vendor, and industry standards.
- Investigate vibration and dynamic integrity concerns and perform root cause analysis.
- Provide practical engineering recommendations for managing vibration, resonance, and fatigue challenges.
- Review relevant piping stress calculations, reports, isometric drawings, layouts, and support designs prepared by engineering teams.
- Set and review methodologies, criteria, and procedures for piping stress and dynamic analyses.
- Ensure adherence to ASME, API, project specifications, and client standards.
- Collaborate closely with departments such as process engineering, mechanical, rotating equipment, structural, instrumentation, and operations.
- Review vendor data concerning equipment excitation forces, vibration, pulsation, and nozzle loads.
- Offer technical guidance across FEED, detailed engineering, construction, commissioning phases, and assist in on-site troubleshooting.
- Lead technical design reviews, contribute SME insights during design/model assessments, HAZOP studies, and client engagements.
- Mentor piping stress engineers and oversee technical quality control of engineering outputs.
- Assist in resolving technical queries, deviations, site challenges, and optimize piping dynamic stress solutions.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Substantial experience in piping stress and dynamic analysis within EPC, oil & gas, petrochemical, or power sectors.
- Demonstrated expertise as a Piping Stress Engineer, Lead, or SME, especially in EPC or process-driven industries.
- Advanced skills in using CAESAR II software, with thorough knowledge of ASME B31.3/B31.1, API standards, and other relevant codes.
- Extensive practical knowledge of piping vibration, dynamic loads, resonance phenomena, fatigue assessment, flow-induced and acoustically induced vibrations, water and steam hammer, and pulsation effects.
- Firm understanding of piping supports, restraints, snubbers, dynamic load evaluations, and equipment nozzle load considerations.
- Proven ability in technical leadership, design review, troubleshooting complex issues, and coordinating multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and client relationship management capabilities.
- Professional certifications such as PE or Chartered Engineer designation, along with experience with major oil & gas client standards, are advantageous.
