About Regeneron and the Role
Regeneron is a science-driven biotechnology company committed to creating transformative medicines for serious diseases. We are searching for a Principal Data Engineer to join our IOPS IT division based in Raheen, Limerick, Ireland. This position will involve developing and maintaining the data infrastructure and pipelines that empower data-informed decisions throughout the company. The role emphasizes designing scalable and secure data architectures, collaborating across teams in Manufacturing, Quality, and IT, and mentoring engineers, all to support a fast-growing scientific organization impacting patients globally.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and optimize secure, scalable data pipelines (ETL/ELT) supporting both real-time and batch processing integrating multiple data sources and implementing CI/CD and resilient systems.
- Develop data lake and warehouse frameworks that organize large-scale datasets to be accessible and accurate, including data modeling and schema creation aligned with business objectives.
- Oversee data pipeline health, diagnose problems, and implement monitoring and alerting systems to ensure data platform reliability.
- Maintain compliance with data governance standards and regulatory mandates such as 21 CFR Part 11, GxP, and CSA, alongside comprehensive documentation maintenance.
- Incorporate advanced technologies like Generative AI and orchestration platforms to increase team productivity and drive innovation in infrastructure.
- Set technical standards and craft complex, scalable data engineering solutions across the enterprise.
- Guide and mentor junior engineering staff and lead data engineering initiatives technically.
Preferred Skills and Technologies
- Strong coding abilities in Python, Java, or Scala.
- Extensive experience with SQL and relational databases.
- Proficiency with NoSQL and big data tools like Hadoop, Spark, Kafka; streaming expertise with Kafka or Flink is advantageous.
- Experience using workflow orchestration tools such as Airflow, Luigi, or Prefect and container technologies.
- Familiarity with Biotech Enterprise Systems including Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS), and Quality Management Systems (QMS) is preferred.
- Understanding of data security, regulatory compliance frameworks including CFR Part 11 and GxP.
- Cloud platform expertise, especially AWS or Azure, and relevant certifications are a plus.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, or related technical field is required; a Master’s degree is preferred.
- For Principal Data Engineer: over 8 years of relevant experience with a minimum of 1 year in biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or life sciences sectors, and at least 3 years working on cloud platforms.
- For Staff Data Engineer (higher level): 10+ years of experience including 3+ years in biotech/pharma and 5+ years using cloud environments.
Work Schedule and Location
- Location is onsite at Raheen, Limerick County, Ireland.
- Standard work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
