Principal Cloud Operations Engineer (GCP Managed Services)

Overview

We are looking for a seasoned Principal Cloud Operations Engineer to act as the technical lead within our Managed Services division. This role involves spearheading cloud operations architecture, fostering automation strategies, managing service transitions, and ensuring operational governance for enterprise clients. The successful candidate will both architect and elevate our cloud operations capabilities, combining hands-on technical skills with strategic leadership.

Key Duties

• Lead as the technical authority for cloud operations in Managed Services.
• Establish cloud operations standards, reference architectures and governance frameworks.
• Guide customer onboarding, facilitate service transitions and conduct operational readiness evaluations.
• Drive initiatives related to Infrastructure-as-Code, automation, and platform engineering.
• Create and maintain runbooks, operational processes, and escalation protocols.
• Serve as the ultimate technical escalation point for critical incidents and problem resolution.
• Mentor team members to develop a top-tier cloud operations function.
• Participate in solution design, service architecture, and initiatives aimed at growing managed services offerings.

Required Experience and Skills

• Over 12 years of experience in cloud infrastructure and operations.
• At least 3 to 5 years in roles such as Cloud Architect, Principal Engineer, Practice Lead, or other technical leadership positions.
• Proven track record in building and scaling cloud operations teams and workflows.
• In-depth expertise in at least one major cloud platform, preferably Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
• Experience managing mission-critical enterprise cloud environments.
• Strong proficiency in cloud automation and Infrastructure-as-Code methodologies.

Technical Expertise

• Expert-level knowledge of Kubernetes, Terraform, and Ansible.
• Familiarity with Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) platforms.
• Proficient in Python and Bash scripting languages.
• Understanding of cloud networking, identity management, and security practices.
• Applied knowledge of Site Reliability Engineering principles, observability, and incident management.

Certifications

• Professional-level Google Cloud Platform (GCP) certification is required.
• Candidates lacking GCP certification but willing and able to obtain it upon joining will be considered.
• Preferred certifications include professional-level AWS, Azure, or OCI certifications and Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA).
• Additional cloud certifications are an advantage.

Preferred Experience Background

• Experience in Managed Services delivery.
• Background in Cloud Operations and Site Reliability Engineering.
• Exposure to Enterprise Platform Engineering and Multi-cloud environments.
