Principal Cloud Operations Engineer (GCP - Managed Services)

Overview

We are looking for a seasoned Principal Cloud Operations Engineer to act as the technical leader within our Managed Services division. This role involves guiding cloud operations architecture, automation strategies, service transitions, governance practices, and fostering engineering excellence across various enterprise customer cloud environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary technical authority overseeing cloud operations in Managed Services.
• Develop and enforce cloud operations standards, reference architectures, and governance frameworks.
• Lead onboarding of customers, manage service transitions, and conduct operational readiness assessments.
• Drive initiatives related to Infrastructure-as-Code, automation, and platform engineering to enhance operational efficiency.
• Create and maintain detailed runbooks, operational procedures, and escalation processes.
• Provide top-level technical support during major incidents and oversee problem management.
• Mentor and develop engineers to build a world-class cloud operations team.
• Participate actively in solution design, service architecture formulation, and initiatives to grow managed services.

Experience and Expertise

• At least 12 years of experience in cloud infrastructure and operations.
• 3 to 5+ years in senior roles such as Cloud Architect, Principal Engineer, Practice Lead, or equivalent technical leadership positions.
• Proven track record in building and expanding cloud operations teams and establishing robust processes.
• Deep specialization in a major cloud platform, with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) as the preferred expertise.
• Experience managing mission-critical enterprise cloud environments.
• Strong command of cloud automation and Infrastructure-as-Code techniques.

Technical Skills Required

• Expert proficiency in Kubernetes, Terraform, and Ansible.
• Experience with CI/CD platforms and workflows.
• Proficient in scripting languages such as Python and Bash.
• Knowledge of cloud networking, identity management, and security fundamentals.
• Familiarity with Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles, observability, and incident management.

Certifications

• Required: Professional-level Google Cloud Platform (GCP) certification.
• Applicants lacking GCP certification but willing to obtain it upon joining may be considered.
• Preferred: Certifications in other clouds (AWS, Azure, OCI), Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA), and additional cloud certifications.
