Overview
Embrace the role of a key community leader at Canada Post by becoming a Postmaster. Reporting to the Superintendent/Local Area Manager, this position involves directing postal product and service promotion and sales within the community, representing Canada Post at the forefront. The Postmaster oversees staff and ensures superior customer service in a dynamic, prioritized environment.
Responsibilities
- Engage regularly with the local population regarding Canada Post's services and offerings.
- Promote and sell postal products and services to residents and businesses alike.
- Provide a central, suitable premises within the community within 30 days of selection.
- Manage post office operations to comply with retail hours and delivery standards.
- Oversee postal revenue streams, assets, and associated values carefully.
- Keep detailed records and prepare necessary reports.
- Support efficient management of mail delivery routing.
- Perform mail sorting tasks for postal boxes, if required.
- Supervise staff members as needed.
- Maintain a clean, orderly post office consistent with Canada Post guidelines.
- Run the post office with attention to diligence and operational efficiency.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent in business administration experience.
- Possession or leasing of a barrier-free, centrally located premises available one month prior to employment.
- Retail or service experience involving direct public interaction, sales, and cash handling.
- Familiarity with postal mail processing regulations and postal service protocols.
- Capability to physically manage mail containers up to 50 lbs, push/pull boxes, sort mail, and stand for long durations.
Premises Requirements
- Premises must be fully accessible for people with disabilities and subject to approval before hiring.
- Postmasters bear responsibility for rent/lease, utilities such as heating and lighting, cleaning, routine maintenance, snow clearance, municipal taxes, and property/liability insurance.
- Employment is governed by the Canada Post Act.
- The public service hours are determined by Canada Post and may be adjusted according to circumstances.
Additional Details
- Priority will be given to transfer requests from CPAA members within the competition area.
- Term employees affiliated with CPAA with continuous employment may apply following the Collective Agreement.
- Weekly work hours total 30, distributed on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday with specified shifts.
- Annual leasing allowance of $3,428 provided to assist with operating costs.
- Potential eligibility for an annual supplemental allowance to offset premises expenses.
