About the Role
Based in Hockley at the SS5 4AA Delivery Office, this full-time position is a 12-month fixed term contract with Royal Mail, offering a wage of £13.68 per hour paid monthly, plus opportunities for paid overtime. Working hours amount to 37 hours per week, spread over 5 days in a 7-day cycle between Monday and Sunday, during either 07:00 to 14:00 or 12:00 to 19:00 shifts. The schedule rotates and includes weekend work, with some Sunday shifts at the Southend Delivery Office on a rotating basis.
Primary Responsibilities
- Sort letters and parcels at the designated delivery office.
- Deliver mail and parcels on foot and by van within the local community.
- Develop and maintain good relationships with customers.
- Work outdoors regardless of weather conditions.
- Handle delivery of various items including letters, parcels, election materials, food products, and alcohol following Royal Mail standards.
Working Conditions and Expectations
- Physically demanding role involving walking up to 12 miles daily (equivalent to over 20,000 steps).
- Regular use of a Royal Mail van for deliveries.
- Operate in all types of weather throughout the year.
- Work in a fast-paced and time-sensitive environment, especially during busy periods.
Candidate Profile
- Must hold a full manual UK driving licence, with no more than 6 penalty points, registered to current name and address.
- Capability and willingness to pass a driving assessment and drive a Royal Mail van daily.
- Physically fit to walk long distances, climb stairs or hills and manage mailbags weighing 10kg or more.
- Dependable, self-driven, and able to organize work effectively under pressure.
- Customer-oriented with pride in delivering excellent service.
- Comfortable working independently and outdoors.
