Job description

Role Overview

Fraser Coast Regional Council is seeking a committed Plant Operator to join its Works Operations team in Maryborough on a permanent full-time basis. The key focus is to safely handle various specialist plant machinery and fleet to execute road construction, maintenance, and drainage projects throughout the Fraser Coast area. This position emphasizes safety, quality workmanship, and delivering excellent community service.

Key Duties

  • Operate specialized equipment and fleet along with attachments to perform construction and maintenance functions.
  • Carry out road and drainage upkeep following the Council's prescribed standards.
  • Conduct equipment pre-start checks and routine minor maintenance activities.
  • Adhere to safe work guidelines including traffic and site safety management.
  • Document completed tasks, submit timesheets, and manage service requests using the Council's information systems.
  • Ensure professional and courteous interaction with the public when present on site.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Possession of a valid Queensland-recognised MR Driver’s Licence.
  • Current General Construction Induction (White Card).
  • Experience operating plant and fleet machinery in road and drainage maintenance contexts.
  • Familiarity with using trucks, tractors, backhoes, graders, and comparable machines.
  • Strong understanding of workplace health and safety, environmental guidelines, and risk management.
  • Capability to work independently, yet cooperatively within a team environment.
  • Proficient communication and cooperative skills.
  • Competence in recording work activities and timesheets through mobile technology and management systems.

Preferred but Not Mandatory

  • Queensland-recognised HC Licence.
  • Certificates or competencies for operating front-end loaders, backhoes, skid steers, excavators.
  • Traffic Management Implementation Level 2 certification.
  • Prior employment in local government or civil construction sectors.
