Role Overview

The PHP Engineer position is part of the UK Loans team, primarily based in or near London, although the role supports remote working. The engineering team encompasses over 200 professionals specializing across backend, frontend, mobile, and platform areas.

This role offers the opportunity to build and integrate new APIs enhancing the customer experience, optimize lending platforms, and participate in architectural decision-making.

Responsibilities & Expectations

• Develop with strong ownership and autonomy, contributing material impact from the start.
• Collaborate with small teams of highly resourceful professionals to innovate and solve complex challenges.
• Implement modern PHP solutions focused on business needs, primarily with PHP 8.0 and above.
• Create robust testing practices including unit, integration, functional, and behavior-driven tests.
• Contribute ideas and learn within a passionate, collaborative team environment.

Qualifications & Skills

• At least 5 years of PHP development experience with modern PHP (version 8+).
• Good command of Symfony framework.
• Experience or familiarity with Domain Driven Design, Message-Driven Systems, and Event Sourcing is advantageous.
• Strong skills in automated testing methodologies and tools such as PHPUnit and Behat.
• Experience in financial systems is desirable but not mandatory.

Technical Environment

• Backend technologies: PHP 8, Symfony 7, AWS services, PostgreSQL, RabbitMQ, Docker, Kubernetes.
• Continuous Integration and Deployment: GitHub Actions, ArgoCD with immediate production deployment following feature completion.
• Testing frameworks: Behat and PHPUnit.
