Role Overview
The Payroll Representative position is a full-time, on-site role based in New Westminster, British Columbia. The individual in this role is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of payroll, which includes calculating earnings, deductions, benefits, and overtime for a varied workforce. Key duties entail managing garnishments and statutory deductions, maintaining comprehensive payroll records, and addressing employee questions related to payroll, benefits, and policies.
Key Responsibilities
- Verify payroll data for accuracy and completeness.
- Resolve any discrepancies found during payroll processing.
- Collaborate closely with human resources and finance departments.
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and organizational payroll standards.
- Provide courteous and prompt customer service to staff throughout Fraser Health.
- Communicate payroll details and policies clearly and effectively to employees.
Qualifications and Skills
- Proven expertise in payroll administration and services, particularly managing multi-employee payrolls and maintaining precise records.
- Practical knowledge of managing garnishments and statutory deductions in line with applicable laws and regulations.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills with the ability to support employees professionally and empathetically.
- Strong attention to detail and numerical accuracy; proficient in payroll software as well as related HR and finance systems.
- Familiarity with Canadian payroll legislation and standards, preferably within a unionized or large public sector environment.
- Capability to work on-site in New Westminster, handle confidential information discreetly, and work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Post-secondary education relevant to payroll or certification such as a Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation from the National Payroll Institute is advantageous.
- Previous healthcare sector experience or working in a complex organizational environment is beneficial.
