Role Overview
Located in Cork, Ireland, with remote flexibility, the Payroll Manager will oversee payroll activities across Europe. Reporting to the Head of European Payroll, this role partners with Employee Services, Finance, Accounting, and Tax departments to streamline payroll operations and shape the European payroll strategy. The manager will also lead monthly payroll execution and projects focused on automation and process optimization.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day payroll processing ensuring accurate and timely payments, statutory reporting, and compliance with tax filings across Europe.
- Provide expert, technical guidance on complex payroll issues and processes.
- Maintain current knowledge of payroll-related laws and regulatory changes in all relevant countries to ensure compliance.
- Coordinate timely government filings and submissions related to payroll.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with tax, stock administration, and employee services teams to address payroll requirements in equity, mobility, and business operations.
- Have comprehensive understanding of wage and hour laws, garnishments, benefits, leaves, pensions, and tax reporting specific to Europe.
- Recommend payroll policies and enhance procedures to maintain strong internal controls and segregation of duties. Interface with auditors on payroll compliance and audits.
- Work alongside Benefits and Finance teams to advise on tax regulations and payroll implications. Lead payroll integration efforts for acquisitions and new country entries.
- Drive the transition to the iiPay payroll platform.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
- Demonstrated leadership in payroll systems implementation, especially transitioning to iiPay.
- Extensive payroll management experience in Europe, with strong focus on Ireland, Germany, and Hungary.
- Technology-driven approach to optimize payroll through innovative systems.
- Familiarity with payroll platforms such as ADP, SAP, UKG, and Workday preferred.
- Strong project management skills in process improvements and implementations.
- Proven ability to effectively manage external payroll vendors.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and creative thinking abilities.
- Highly process-oriented with strong numerical skills and attention to detail.
- Adaptability to fast-paced, rapidly evolving work environments.
- Self-motivated with effective prioritization and initiative-taking capabilities.
- Outstanding communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Commercially aware with understanding of business and financial contexts.
Educational & Experience Requirements
- At least 8 years’ experience managing payroll in Europe, preferably within a US-listed global technology firm.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business or related discipline preferred.
- Proficiency in an additional European language, German particularly advantageous.
