Role Overview
This is a full-time on-site position for a Pastry Chef at Albion Bakehouse in Albion, QLD. The role involves preparing, baking, and finishing a diverse range of pastries, breads, and other bakery items while maintaining high standards for quality, flavor, and appearance. Daily responsibilities include measuring and mixing doughs and batters, handling bakery machinery, overseeing oven operations, and decorating pastries consistent with bakery guidelines. The Pastry Chef is also responsible for sustaining cleanliness and safety, adhering to food safety and hygiene protocols, managing inventory of ingredients, and collaborating with colleagues on creating new menu items and seasonal offerings. Close coordination with kitchen and front-of-house staff is crucial to ensure efficient service and meet production schedules.
Key Qualifications and Skills
- Experience in commercial bakery settings, understanding daily production workflow.
- Competence in food preparation and basic kitchen operations with an emphasis on cleanliness, efficiency, and safety.
- Expertise in baking processes including dough handling, pastry creation, and precise measuring and mixing.
- General culinary skills such as flavor combination, plating presentation, and innovative product development.
- Knowledge of food safety regulations, hygiene practices, and safe bakery equipment usage.
- Physical capability to work early mornings, stand for long durations, and efficiently handle high-volume workloads.
- Strong focus on detail, dependability, and ability to operate both autonomously and collaboratively.
- Formal culinary or patisserie education and prior pastry chef or baker experience are highly preferred.
