Job description
Position Overview
CAF Rail Australia invites qualified candidates to join us as a Painter within the Mindyarra Maintenance Centre located in Dubbo, NSW. This role reports directly to the Train Assembly Team Leader and is integral to the painting operations of rolling stock units under the NSW Regional Rail fleet replacement project.
Key Duties
- Prepare surfaces by sanding, masking, and performing minor repairs to rolling stock before painting.
- Mix and prepare paints and associated materials precisely following specified formulations.
- Carry out small painting corrections, repair work, and finish enhancements as instructed.
- Perform basic quality checks including film thickness, gloss levels, and adhesion tests whenever necessary.
- Maintain and correctly use painting equipment such as tools and compressors.
- Complete required documentation including control sheets and records related to painting tasks.
- Ensure work areas remain clean, tidy, and adhere strictly to safety and environmental standards.
- Promptly identify and report hazards or unsafe conditions, complying with established safety regulations.
- Assist mechanical fitting teams during train completion activities by supporting assembly, re-fitting, or minor mechanical tasks to ensure timely readiness of units.
Candidate Profile
- Applicants should have a minimum of two years’ experience in painting or related roles involving rolling stock or similar.

The NSW Government is upgrading its regional rail fleet, replacing older models with 29 new, safer, more user-friendly trains servicing routes across NSW and connecting Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne, and Brisbane. Mindyarra Maintenance Centre in Dubbo plays a pivotal role in the manufacturing, testing, and quality assurance stages, with possibilities for staff transitions into warranty and maintenance teams.
