Job Overview
This opportunity is offered through a partner organization managing all application steps. The role is fully remote and based in Kenya. As an Oracle Database Administrator, you will provide expert-level database administration and consulting support across complex Oracle environments spanning versions 10g through 19c. The position involves leading upgrades, migrations, performance optimization, high availability, backup and recovery, and working with engineered systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage Oracle database environments to ensure stability, performance, and dependability across 10g, 11g, 12c, and 19c versions.
- Operate and support Oracle Engineered Systems such as Oracle Database Appliance and Exadata to handle intensive workloads.
- Plan and implement database upgrades including hands-on migrating to Oracle 19c.
- Conduct database migrations with a focus on minimizing downtime and preserving data integrity.
- Tune database performance by diagnosing issues and applying optimization techniques.
- Administer backup and recovery operations using RMAN to ensure data safety and disaster readiness.
- Support high availability solutions by using technologies like Oracle RAC, Data Guard, partitioning, and compression.
- Utilize Oracle Enterprise Manager Grid Control for monitoring and troubleshooting database infrastructures.
- Provide systems administration support for at least two operating systems among Linux/OEL, Solaris, AIX, or HP-UX.
- Engage in client consulting projects including implementations, migrations, upgrades, and problem resolution.
- Establish realistic effort estimations, honor commitments, and deliver projects within timeframes.
- Maintain comprehensive technical documentation and communicate clearly with clients and internal teams.
- Apply analytical and innovative problem-solving to overcome technical challenges.
- Collaborate effectively with distributed project teams in a dynamic consulting environment.
- Availability for periodic after-hours work when necessary to meet client or project demands.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Minimum of 10 years professional experience as an Oracle DBA with hands-on expertise across Oracle 10g, 11g, 12c, and 19c versions.
- At least 2 years of experience with Oracle Engineered Systems, especially Oracle Database Appliance and/or Exadata.
- Demonstrable experience performing upgrades to Oracle 19c.
- Proven ability to execute complex database platform migrations and Oracle implementations.
- In-depth understanding of Oracle RDBMS architecture, configuration, administration, and troubleshooting.
- Advanced skills in Oracle database performance tuning.
- Expert knowledge of RMAN for backup and recovery processes.
- Hands-on experience with Oracle RAC, Data Guard, partitioning, and compression technologies.
- Proficiency in using Oracle Enterprise Manager Grid Control for monitoring and administration.
- System administration skills covering at least two operating systems such as Linux/OEL, Solaris, AIX, or HP-UX.
- Excellent verbal, written, and organizational communication skills, including technical documentation.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a practical, creative approach to resolving complex technical issues.
- Ability to provide accurate work estimates and reliably meet deadlines.
- Effective teamwork and collaboration abilities within diverse, distributed teams and fast-paced consulting settings.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business Management, or related field; equivalent professional experience is acceptable.
- Experience with cloud platforms is highly desirable, particularly in supporting Oracle databases in cloud environments.
- Comfortable working remotely and collaborating across diverse locations.
