Job description
Role Overview
Windmill Healthcare Group is seeking a dedicated full-time Activities Assistant to join our care team at the Ferbane Care Centre. The position involves supporting the delivery of high-quality care by managing and implementing a well-rounded activities program for residents in partnership with the Director of Nursing and other staff members.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and organize suitable recreational, physical, and individualized activities tailored for residents at Ferbane Care Centre.
- Regularly update resident activity assessments or adjust them according to changing needs.
- Identify and respond to the needs of both groups and individual residents by customizing activities accordingly.
- Maintain detailed records of resident participation in both on-site and external activities using EpiCare Therapies notes.
- Promote active engagement of residents within the care center's programs.
- Build trusting and open relationships to encourage resident participation.
- Train staff at Ferbane Care Centre in conducting resident activities.
- Plan and facilitate special events such as outings, garden visits, birthdays, Christmas, and other seasonal festivities.
- Collaborate with local library services to assist residents with borrowing and returning books and utilizing library resources.
- Notify the lead nurse of any concerns about residents.
- Participate in relevant training sessions both internally and externally to enhance service quality.
- Fulfill additional duties as assigned by the Director of Nursing.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding residents and facility operations, ensuring privacy is respected at all times.
Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualifications:
- Mandatory: Leaving Certificate.
- Preferred: Completion of Sonas Course Levels 1 and 2.
Experience:
- Essential prior experience working in a nursing home or social care setting.
- Desirable skills include expertise in cooking, gardening, knitting, music, and arts and crafts.

- Genuine enjoyment in working with elderly individuals.
- Patient, compassionate, and committed with a positive outlook and a sense of humour.
- Strong motivation and excellent communication abilities to effectively deliver activities to diverse groups.
