Night Shift Train Cleaner

Role Overview

As a Night Shift Train Cleaner based at Carlisle Train Station, you will play a crucial role in ensuring trains are clean, safe, and ready for daily service. You will be part of a night team responsible for maintaining high hygiene standards and a welcoming environment to support reliable train operations.

Primary Duties

• Meticulously clean train interiors, including tables, windows, seats, floors, and frequently touched surfaces.
• Clear litter, empty bins, and replenish essential onboard supplies.
• Conduct comprehensive daily cleaning and deep specialist clean tasks to maintain the fleet's condition.
• Use specialized cleaning equipment and effective methods to remove stubborn dirt across train carriages.
• Handle urgent cleaning tasks involving biohazard spills (e.g., blood, vomit) safely in accordance with health and safety protocols.
• Collaborate with the night team to complete all cleaning efficiently to ensure timely train departures.

Candidate Profile

• Experience in commercial, industrial, or domestic cleaning, enabling immediate contribution.
• Strong attention to detail with a commitment to high cleanliness standards.
• Reliability, a good work ethic, and ability to work well within a team.
• Comfortable working nights outdoors and inside trains regardless of weather conditions.
• Physically fit with stamina to climb onboard trains and stay active during shifts, often exceeding 10,000 steps.
• Flexibility to work night shifts on weekends and public holidays following a 4 on/5 off rolling schedule between 20:00 and 06:00.

Additional Requirements

• Residency within 45 minutes’ travel of Carlisle station.
• At least 18 years of age.
• Ability to pass safety-critical medical evaluations including drug and alcohol testing.
• Normal color vision is mandatory.

Working Conditions & Schedule

The position involves night shift work averaging 35 hours per week, with a 4-week rolling roster of 4/5 nights working alternating with 4/5 nights off.
