Night Handling Associate (Full-time)

Role Summary

The Handling Associate is responsible for stocking merchandise on shelves, maintaining and organizing the sales floor to ensure a safe and pleasant shopping environment, and assisting customers as needed. This role often involves operating forklifts (retractable or standard fork) and order picker trucks to retrieve items from shelves and place them appropriately on the sales floor. Associates also prepare assigned orders, carefully package products to prevent damage, accurately label them, and place them in designated storage areas.

Key Duties

• Manage merchandise by keeping stock levels at 100% through effective stocking on shelves.
• Unload pallets and stock merchandise on shelves according to instructions.
• Merchandise new items and promotional products to maintain an attractive presentation.
• Maintain clean and accessible aisles conducive to shopping, ensuring merchandise is attractively displayed and reachable.
• Organize and align merchandise on higher shelves.
• Coordinate with team members to ensure products are stored in correct locations.

Customer Service

• Adhere to Home Depot's customer service model "Move to ACT": greet customers, build rapport, and conclude with thanks.
• Ask open-ended questions about customer projects to assess their expertise and needs.

Safety and Integrity

• Safely move merchandise between temporary storage areas and upper shelves, using appropriate equipment.
• Ensure customers can freely and safely navigate aisles.
• Follow all safety policies and loss prevention procedures.

Reporting

Reports directly to the Handling Supervisor.

Physical Requirements

• Bending, stooping, stretching, twisting, lifting, pushing, pulling, and moving items.
• Ability to climb ladders up to 3.5 to 5 meters (12 to 16 feet) to retrieve or store merchandise.

Working Conditions

• Variable schedule including night shifts and possibly evening and weekend shifts.
• Warehouse environment potentially dusty and noisy.
• Forklift operation produces gas emissions.
• Frequent open doors causing drafts and temperature fluctuations inside.

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• One to two years experience in retail or distribution is advantageous.
• Forklift operation experience (retractable or fork lift trucks, order picker trucks) considered an asset.
