Job description
Job Overview
We are looking for a skilled MySQL Database Administrator with significant experience in migrating on-premises virtual machines to Amazon Web Services (AWS). This position involves leading the design, assessment, and full execution of transferring virtualized MySQL database systems from on-prem environments such as VMware, Hyper-V, or KVM to highly efficient AWS cloud platforms including Amazon EC2 infrastructure and AWS managed database services.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and implement comprehensive migration strategies for relocating multi-terabyte on-prem MySQL databases to AWS with minimal downtime.
- Evaluate current on-premises workload characteristics including compute, memory, and disk I/O to determine optimal AWS architecture solutions.
- Set up hybrid connectivity solutions using AWS Direct Connect or IPsec VPN to secure and enable low-latency replication between on-prem data centers and AWS VPCs.
- Manage migration cutovers utilizing hybrid replication methods like AWS Database Migration Service (DMS) or AWS Application Migration Service (MGN).
- Develop detailed migration playbooks, contingency measures, and rollback plans to minimize risks during production maintenance.
- Right-size AWS EC2 instances focusing on memory-optimized types based on detailed on-premises CPU and NUMA analysis.
- Provision and tune AWS storage, emphasizing Amazon EBS performance to meet desired IOPS and throughput benchmarks.
- Architect secure AWS network topologies using VPCs with controlled public/private subnets, Security Groups, Network ACLs, and IAM policies.
- Design fault-tolerant architectures employing Multi-AZ deployments, MySQL Clustering, and Group Replication for high availability.
- Implement backup and disaster recovery solutions leveraging AWS Backup and EBS snapshots integrations.
- Ensure security best practices via TLS/SSL encryption in transit, encryption at rest leveraging AWS KMS or TDE, and enforcing least-privilege IAM access.
- Conduct performance benchmarking and validation before and after migration to confirm AWS environment delivers equal or improved service levels.
- Use Amazon CloudWatch, Performance Schema, and Slow Query Logs to monitor resource usage, latency, buffer pool efficiency, and query performance.
- Troubleshoot and optimize any performance bottlenecks or query regressions post-migration.
