MS SQL Database Administrator

Role Overview

We are looking for a skilled MS SQL Database Administrator to join our team, responsible for managing and supporting MS SQL databases with an emphasis on Failover Cluster, Always ON configurations, and server provisioning. This role includes transaction replication, link server management, security hardening, and regular patching as part of daily operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze logs and event files to detect errors that could cause incidents.
• Monitor disaster recovery database availability and log replication processes.
• Provide scheduled reports on log replication status.
• Oversee session, query, log, and latch monitoring for database health.
• Identify signs of potential failures through system event analysis.
• Perform purging of database logs and trace files regularly.
• Conduct periodic configuration reviews to ensure consistency.
• Offer recommendations to maintain high database availability.
• Compile monthly reports detailing database uptime and availability.
• Reinstall database software and reconfigure components such as log shipping.
• Handle configuration of transactional replication and link servers.
• Manage failover clustering and Always ON setup.
• Respond and resolve database-related incidents promptly.
• Optimize database parameters and execute performance tuning.
• Investigate related incidents, escalate to problem tickets, and follow problem management protocols.
• Utilize trend analysis for problem identification and prioritization.
• Restore databases as needed.
• Create and schedule routine maintenance jobs including index rebuilding.
• Implement performance management activities such as defragmentation and log purging.
• Manage service requests through change management processes.
• Automate database administration tasks where feasible.
• Maintain comprehensive documentation for all database environments.

Technical Skills and Knowledge

• Proven experience with database installation and troubleshooting.
• Expertise in Always ON cluster configuration and administration.
• Strong knowledge in managing failover clusters.
• Experience with patching for Failover Cluster and Always ON environments.
• Proficient in replication and link server setup and management.
• Ability to apply database patching and hardening techniques.
• Skilled in job scheduling and creating maintenance plans.
• Experience in database migration projects.
• Competence in diagnosing and fixing database performance issues.
