About the Role
Join the Central Otago District Council as a Monitoring and Enforcement Officer, contributing to the safety, vibrancy, and effective management of the district through active community engagement and regulatory compliance. This role involves diverse daily activities including site inspections, responding to public inquiries, and working collaboratively with a dedicated team.
Key Responsibilities
- Enforce and promote adherence to the Resource Management Act, Building Act, District Plan, Council Bylaws, and other pertinent legislation using education, guidance, and regulatory measures.
- Conduct site visits to monitor resource consent conditions, evaluate compliance, and investigate potential infringements.
- Promptly address service requests from the public and internal Council teams, delivering practical advice and solutions.
- Pursue compliance outcomes through balanced methods including education, communication, negotiation, and enforcement actions when needed.
- Prepare and issue permits, notices, warnings, and infringement documents in line with legal and Council standards.
- Offer accurate regulatory counsel to various Council departments, aiding the enforcement strategy's success.
- Participate in the development and revision of Council bylaws, including consultations and hearings as required.
- Assist in delivering Regulatory Services functions and undertake additional tasks as directed by leadership.
- Collaborate organisation-wide to provide responsive, customer-centric services and support the "One Team" culture.
- Support related compliance and enforcement duties across regulatory functions based on operational needs.
Candidate Profile
- Possess tertiary qualifications preferably in planning or resource management.
- Experience within local government is beneficial but not mandatory.
- Strong oral and written communication proficiency.
- Demonstrated ability to foster relationships with varied stakeholders.
- High competency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent organisational skills with keen attention to detail.
- Capability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Sound analytical skills and competent report writing.
- Solution-oriented mindset and the ability to meet deadlines under pressure.
