Job description
Role Overview
As a Merchandise Space Planner at The North West Company, you will develop and update planograms to improve assortment productivity, supporting merchandising strategies and enhancing customer shopping experiences. This includes building planograms according to category assortments and visual standards, collaborating closely with the Merchandise Planning Manager, Merchandising Category Teams, and Data Management to maintain guidelines and policies essential for planogram creation.
Key Duties
- Create and update planograms integrating merchandising strategies, standards, and best practices.
- Maintain accurate data within databases used for developing planograms in assigned categories.
- Analyze planogram designs to identify efficiencies, reduce errors, and boost sales performance for assigned categories.
- Utilize space management tools to evaluate and recommend merchandising actions based on space productivity, inventory turnover, and product trends.
- Participate in cross-functional meetings, providing space planning expertise to support strategic merchandising plans.
- Prepare planograms for review sessions held at the NWC Training Center.
- Ensure timely and precise completion of planogram creation, editing, review, and approval processes according to the planogram calendar.
- Distribute finalized planograms regularly through SharePoint and Head Office systems.
- Manage planogram maintenance by updating existing and work-in-progress planograms with additions or removals as needed.
- Organize and maintain the planogram library, including category-specific naming conventions.
- Produce and distribute planogram reference books to support store reprofiling and renovation projects.
- Provide consistent support to stores during planogram implementation phases.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Post-secondary education relevant to the field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Preferred three to five years of experience in retail settings.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Access.
- Experience using Nielsen Spaceman Shelf Management Software is advantageous.
- Ability to manage multiple projects within tight deadlines effectively.
- Demonstrated organizational, planning, and prioritizing capabilities.
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of interacting with diverse internal and external stakeholders.
Work Environment and Location
This position is located at Gibraltar House, 77 Main Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba. You will report directly to the Merchandise Planning Manager.
