Mechanical Engineer

Role Overview

The Mechanical Engineer will provide expert mechanical engineering support that enhances troubleshooting capabilities, ensures mechanical integrity, and optimizes the lifecycle performance of mechanical equipment across the drilling fleet. The role focuses on maintaining safety, regulatory compliance, and operational reliability.

Technical Governance and Standards

• Develop and uphold mechanical engineering standards complying with Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) guidelines, Classification Societies, Flag State regulations, and other applicable regulatory frameworks.
• Authorize mechanical maintenance procedures, job plans, and scopes of work consistent with asset management policies.
• Oversee compliance with mechanical integrity standards fleetwide and promptly notify senior management of significant deviations.

Equipment Reliability and Troubleshooting

• Lead detailed diagnostics and resolution efforts for critical machinery including rotating equipment, engines, pumps, cranes, and hydraulic systems.
• Support rig teams in root cause analyses to ensure corrective measures effectively mitigate failure modes.
• Collaborate with Technical Superintendents to address high-impact downtime incidents and validate recovery strategies.

Maintenance Strategy and Execution

• Evaluate and endorse preventive maintenance strategies, task listings, and service intervals drawing upon risk assessment, historical performance, and OEM guidance.
• Audit CMMS job plans, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and maintenance workflows to confirm accuracy and uniformity.
• Ensure maintenance activities align with safety-critical system needs and uphold equipment performance standards.

Integrity, Certification and Compliance

• Perform audits related to mechanical integrity across pressure vessels, lifting gear, rotating machinery, and hydraulic components.
• Confirm that certifications for vital mechanical systems are current and meet class, flag, API, and other regulatory demands.
• Identify mechanical hazards and non-conformities, tracking corrective action completion within prescribed timelines.

Projects, Modifications and Capital Expenditures

• Offer technical guidance for mechanical upgrades, significant overhauls, and capital expenditure projects.
• Review vendor submissions, engineering outputs, and project definitions to ensure alignment with mechanical standards.
• Evaluate and approve mechanical design alterations and hardware modifications through formal Management of Change (MOC) procedures.

Spare Parts and Lifecycle Management

• Assess critical spare components needs, obsolescence challenges, and stock levels in coordination with Supply Chain, Procurement, and Planning departments.
• Propose fleetwide initiatives aimed at enhancing reliability and preventing recurring mechanical failures.
• Contribute to long-term lifecycle planning and asset replacement strategies.

Documentation and Reporting

• Maintain accurate technical documentation including mechanical drawings, manuals, and certificates within controlled systems.
• Prepare and submit mechanical integrity reports, audit outcomes, technical advisories, and troubleshooting summaries to senior management.
• Ensure data quality and consistency of mechanical asset records within the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and engineering databases.
