Job description

Role Overview

We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to create and develop mechanical components, structural assemblies, and heavy fabrication units tailored to client specifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed 2D drawings, 3D models, general arrangement (GA) drawings, fabrication plans, and bills of materials (BOMs).
  • Work extensively on heavy and structural fabrication and engineering components.
  • Interpret customer drawings and specifications to produce manufacturing-ready designs.
  • Select materials, sections, welding methods, tolerance levels, and manufacturing techniques suitable for projects.
  • Collaborate closely with Production, Fabrication, Quality Assurance, Purchasing, and Project departments to ensure smooth project execution.
  • Revise and optimize existing designs focusing on reducing costs, enhancing manufacturability, and improving performance.
  • Review all drawings for dimensional accuracy, inclusion of GD&T, welding symbols, and manufacturability compliance.
  • Maintain engineering documentation including drawing updates and BOM records.
  • Assist the production team with resolving design challenges and offer technical problem-solving support.
  • Engage with customers to clarify technical requirements and obtain drawing approvals.
  • Ensure adherence to industry standards and safety regulations in all designs.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Comprehensive understanding of mechanical design and engineering drawings.
  • Expertise with AutoCAD and proficiency in 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, Creo, Inventor, or similar platforms.
  • Familiarity with GD&T principles, welding symbology, fabrication processes, and material specifications.
  • Experience in heavy and structural fabrication or related engineering manufacturing is desirable.
  • Strong analytical problem-solving abilities coupled with effective communication skills.
  • Capability to accurately interpret customer drawings and technical specifications.
