Role Overview

We are recruiting a full-time Mechanical Design Engineer to be based at our Auckland office. This role involves designing and developing mechanical parts and assemblies essential for fibre laser and photonic system integration.

Key Duties

  • Develop and update precise 3D CAD models alongside 2D technical drawings.
  • Conduct fundamental mechanical analyses and engineering computations.
  • Collaborate mechanical design efforts with optical and electronic components.
  • Produce comprehensive manufacturing and assembly instructions.
  • Work closely with interdisciplinary engineering and research teams.
  • Participate in innovating, prototyping, and refining new product designs.
  • Diagnose and resolve mechanical challenges within existing product lines.
  • Contribute to ongoing advancements in product design, fabrication practices, and assembly workflows.

Candidate Profile

  • Possess a Bachelor's degree or higher qualification in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Have at least 2 to 3-plus years of experience in mechanical design engineering.
  • Strong foundation in mechanical engineering principles especially applicable to precision laser and photonic devices.
  • Advanced capabilities in machine and precision mechanical design including materials selection, tolerance specifications, mechanism design, and manufacturing-focused design approaches.
  • Proficient user of 3D CAD systems coupled with skills in preparing accurate 2D technical drawings.
  • Excellent communication, meticulous attention to detail, and a team-oriented problem-solving mindset.
  • Experience in mechanical systems integration and precise alignment techniques is highly valued.
  • Prior involvement with optical or photonic hardware, precision optomechanics, or laser machinery is an advantage but not mandatory.
