Role Overview

This is a permanent, full-time role based in Auckland, New Zealand, requiring 40 hours per week. The position seeks an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join and lead the Design & Development team, providing hands-on involvement throughout the full product development cycle, as well as mentoring other engineers.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design efforts for development projects from concept to production.
• Design and develop components focusing on quality, cost efficiency, and manufacturability.
• Create and review 3D models, 2D technical drawings, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and other related documentation.
• Provide guidance and training to team members, especially in CATIA software.
• Collaborate closely with internal departments such as engineering, quality, production, and purchasing, as well as external partners.
• Ensure that designs comply with technical, customer, and regulatory standards.
• Participate in project planning, scheduling, and achieving delivery milestones.
• Drive continuous improvements in design processes and systems including Product Data Management (PDM) and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM).

Candidate Profile

• A minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical or product design engineering.
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Mechatronic, Industrial Engineering or a related field.
• Proficiency with CATIA CAD software is essential.
• Expertise in designing plastic components, with knowledge of injection moulding, stamping, and tooling processes.
• Experience managing full product development lifecycles.
• Strong communication skills and ability to effectively work across various teams.

Desirable Skills

• Background in automotive or similar manufacturing industries.
• Understanding of Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) and industry design standards.
• Familiarity with PDM and PLM systems.
• Hands-on experience in prototyping or workshop environments.
