Job Overview

This is a hands-on, shop floor position involving the setup, operation, maintenance, and optimisation of injection moulding machines and tooling during the night shift. The role is ideal for someone skilled in machine repair and enhancement, responsible for ensuring the smooth and efficient production runs within HELLA New Zealand.

Key Responsibilities

• Set up correct tooling, materials, machinery, and conduct SPC and quality checks to assure product standards.
• Monitor inventory levels of virgin and regrind polymers, managing their optimal use and reducing waste.
• Identify quality issues proactively and communicate them promptly.
• Complete quality sampling and in-process inspections regularly.
• Perform SPC data verification and analysis to maintain product quality and process improvements.
• Prepare machinery and equipment for specific production requirements, maintaining consistent quality standards.
• Complete required administrative tasks in line with company procedures.
• Apply lean manufacturing principles to enhance production efficiency.
• Meet continuous improvement targets across product, process, workplace, and personnel quality standards.
• Engage in offline improvement projects and recommend plant process enhancements.
• Identify and pursue opportunities to increase throughput, reduce operating expenses, and optimize inventory.
• Ensure efficient equipment utilization and propose improvement initiatives.
• Coordinate tooling trials from the design department and ensure successful outcomes.
• Analyze production data and trends to support decision-making.
• Undertake special projects as assigned.
• Provide mentorship and advice to the moulding team as needed.
• Manage timely drying and availability of materials before usage.
• Maintain comprehensive care of moulding machines and related equipment.
• Preserve tooling appropriately, ensuring proper preparation and storage post-use.
• Perform tooling maintenance for optimal performance.
• Conduct basic preventative maintenance, including cleaning, lubrication, and wear monitoring.
• Manage spare parts inventory effectively.

Qualifications and Experience

• Minimum Level 4 qualification or equivalent industry experience.
• Between 5 to 7 years experience in die setting and injection moulding operations.
• At least 5 years working experience with PC, Nylon, and PMMA materials.
• Possession of National Certificate in Plastics Processing Technology (Injection Moulding) Level 4 or similar qualification.
• Strong engineering aptitude, especially in die and machine fault diagnostics and maintenance.
• High standard of workmanship with passion and pride in quality output.
• Excellent organisational and time management abilities.
• Experience in moulding engineering materials alongside tooling maintenance and machine upkeep.
