About the Role
The Meat Cutter is responsible for ensuring smooth and efficient operation of the store's meat department, adhering to the company’s standards, boosting sales, and maximizing profitability. This role requires delivering exceptional customer service while following the company's meat merchandising plan and preparing standard cuts of meat as specified in the Meat Cutter Resource Manual. The position demands strong teamwork, excellent interpersonal communication, and dedication to the team’s success.

Key Responsibilities
- Operates under guidance of Store Manager and Assistant Store Manager.
- Uses knives and power equipment to cut and package authorized beef, pork, and poultry items according to company policies.
- Wraps, weighs, prices, and labels meat packages following COOL, USDA, and company standards.
- Updates in-store displays and signage to highlight meat products—maximizing merchandising effectiveness and sales; may assist in product ordering.
- Maintains accurate date rotation on all products in both display cases and storage per company policies.
- Prepares meat cuts and arranges them in display counters to enhance visual appeal to customers.
- Receives and inspects meat deliveries, ensuring cold chain maintenance and product quality.
- Upholds sanitation and quality standards daily in accordance with company guidelines.
- Follows all company procedures including COOL compliance, food safety, sanitation, scale operations, markdowns, inventory, shelf organization (POGs), and paperwork such as manager sign-offs and cutting lists.
- Performs additional duties related to perishable and non-perishable goods to support store performance.
- Protects company assets including merchandise, funds, and property at all times.
- May be required to work at multiple store locations as needed.
Qualifications and Skills
- Minimum age of 18 years.
- High school diploma or equivalent educational qualification.
- Completion of the Save-A-Lot Meat Cutter Training Program within three months of hire.
- Prior experience cutting meat using hand and power tools such as knives, slicers, grinders, cubing machines, and power saws is preferred.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent customer service abilities.
- Dependability and flexibility in work schedule.
- Compliance with company’s uniform dress code is mandatory.
Physical Demands
- Work is primarily conducted in a temperature-controlled environment averaging between 38°F and 45°F.
- Frequent reaching, bending, balancing, lifting, and transporting objects up to 30 pounds, with occasional loads up to 100 pounds (assisted when needed).
- Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the work shift for extended durations.
- Repetitive use of pushing, pulling, grasping, and sawing motions over prolonged periods is required.
