Job description

Overview

The Material Planner will take charge of overseeing and managing the Material Requirements Planning (MRP) process to guarantee timely generation of Purchase Requisitions (PR) and avert material shortages that might disrupt production flow. This role requires tight collaboration with the Procurement team to facilitate seamless material movement. Additionally, the planner will monitor material consumption, verify Bill of Materials (BOM) accuracy, and ensure inventory correctness across assembly, testing, and final operations.

Key Duties

  • Conduct routine (daily/weekly) MRP evaluations to identify material needs grounded on production schedules and customer demand forecasts.
  • Assess MRP exception alerts such as shortages, surplus, or overdue items and resolve issues proactively.
  • Maintain precise system parameters including lead times, safety stock quantities, lot sizes, and minimum order quantities to ensure dependable MRP outputs.
  • Examine and confirm BOM details for correctness and completeness, facilitating accurate MRP derivation.
  • Collaborate with Engineering to promptly update BOMs for Engineering Change Notices (ECNs), introduction of new products, or substitution of materials.
  • Execute regular audits comparing BOM with actual production usage to detect and amend discrepancies.
  • Authorize timely release of PRs based on MRP outputs, aligning with production schedules to prevent delays.
  • Monitor progress from PR issuance to Purchase Order (PO) completion in cooperation with Procurement, aiming to avoid order cycle disruptions.
  • Rank PR processing priorities based on production urgency, line criticality, and material lead times.
  • Detect potential shortages ahead of production needs and collaborate with Procurement to accelerate delivery of critical or at-risk materials.
  • Alert Production Planning, Procurement, and Management early about shortage risks and propose mitigation plans.
  • Analyze actual material usage against planned figures, investigating any significant variances.
  • Oversee inventory levels, including raw materials and work-in-progress, ensuring these align with MRP expectations.
  • Coordinate with Industrial Engineering (IE) and Production teams to accurately document material consumption and scrap rates within the system to enhance MRP reliability.
  • Serve as a main liaison among Production Planning, Procurement, and Warehouse teams to secure material availability before production runs.
  • Work alongside Engineering and Quality departments concerning material holds, substitutions, or ECN effects that influence MRP.
  • Support New Product Introduction (NPI) projects by ensuring new material needs are accurately captured in MRP systems.
  • Prepare weekly shortage status reports for Production Planning, Procurement, and Management outlining at-risk materials and corrective actions underway.
  • Maintain monitoring of key performance indicators including on-time PR release rates, shortage occurrences, BOM accuracy, inventory precision, and forecast versus actual MRP outcomes.
  • Identify root causes behind regular shortages, BOM inconsistencies, or PR release delays, and promote improvements collaboratively with relevant departments.
  • Perform additional tasks assigned by supervisory staff.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or bachelor's degree in supply chain management, industrial engineering, logistics, or a related discipline.
  • Between 2 to 5 years of professional experience in material planning or MRP-centric roles, preferably within the semiconductor, electronics manufacturing, or OSAT sectors.
  • Extensive knowledge of MRP principles and BOM structures, with proficiency in ERP platforms such as SAP, Oracle, or equivalent systems.
  • Understanding of semiconductor assembly and testing workflows, including wafer sort, die attach, wire bonding, molding, testing, and tape & reel processes.
  • Familiarity with Lean manufacturing, Six Sigma principles, or supply chain certifications like APICS/CPIM is advantageous.
  • Advanced skills in Excel and data analysis applied to monitoring material consumption, BOM compliance, and identifying shortage patterns.
  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities to liaise efficiently with Procurement, Engineering, and other cross-functional teams.
