The Data & Services team, a core part of Mastercard, focuses on delivering scalable, innovative data-driven solutions globally across payments consulting, loyalty programs, marketing, experimentation, and risk management.

As a Software Engineering Manager at Mastercard, you will lead the design and development of cutting-edge analytics applications that analyze massive datasets from retailers, banks, and other consumer sectors. Creating high-performance algorithms and intuitive visual tools, your work will empower clients to leverage big data insights that directly impact multi-million dollar business decisions and profitability.

You will work alongside agile, cross-functional teams on a wide array of technical challenges, including frontend web development, backend calculation engines, and database solutions. This role is based in Europe with collaboration across teams in Pune and Arlington, VA.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and nurture a high-performing software engineering team.
• Lead large-scale software projects from initial concept through deployment.
• Architect and deliver complex components of the platform ensuring high-quality software development.
• Define and implement state-of-the-art, service-oriented software architectures.
• Act as a technical leader and mentor, guiding team members toward best practices and quality code.
• Plan and scope feature development in coordination with stakeholders.
• Create impactful features utilized by top global organizations for critical business decisions.
• Drive continuous innovation by adopting new technologies to enhance big data processing speed and scale.
• Shape the engineering culture and foster growth within the Data & Services Platforms team.
• Contribute to defining and improving engineering processes based on agile team autonomy.
• Mentor junior engineers both technically and professionally.
• Collaborate closely with Product Owners to translate business needs into technical roadmaps and deliver projects that enhance customer experience.

Ideal Candidate Profile

• Strong expertise in full-stack software development with proven technical foundations.
• Experience architecting scalable solutions for complex engineering challenges.
• Proficient in modular design and creation of single-responsibility services and APIs.
• In-depth knowledge of vanilla JavaScript and frameworks like React, Redux, or Angular.
• Strong understanding of web and server-side technologies applied in microservice architectures.
• Familiarity with Java, Python, or other object-oriented programming languages is a plus.
• Experience with microservices development and their integration with UI layers.
• Comfortable working within agile environments and methodologies.
• Full-stack experience with Databricks platform is advantageous.
• Passionate about analytical and quantitative problem-solving.
• Skilled in CI/CD pipelines and focused on engineering best practices.
• Self-motivated, creative, and able to thrive in small, dynamic project teams.
• Capable of critically reviewing code and guiding team improvements to maintain code quality.
• Educational background in Computer Science or a related technical field with a strong academic record.
• Prior leadership or mentoring experience preferred.
• Excellent communication skills in both written and spoken English.
