About the Role
At Prime Video, we revolutionize traditional media by delivering an expansive range of movies, TV shows, Emmy Award-winning originals, popular subscriptions like HBO, and live events such as Thursday Night Football. Our platform supports Amazon-scale operations, focusing on superior playback dependability, swift video startup, and exceptional image quality across thousands of devices in over 200 countries.
The Prime Video Payments team plays a critical role as the customer advocate, designing solutions to attract, engage, and retain global viewers. Our backend architecture handles billions of daily requests with unwavering reliability and minimal operational demands, utilizing Amazon Web Services technologies like EC2, S3, DynamoDB, Lambda, Kinesis, IoT, and CloudFront.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead 1-2 teams of expert Software Development Engineers (SDEs) and Quality Assurance Engineers (QAEs) in building scalable, high-quality distributed systems.
- Recruit, onboard, mentor, and nurture engineers at varied skill levels to foster a high-performance culture.
- Drive timely delivery by managing projects within Agile/Scrum frameworks, ensuring commitments are met.
- Shape and participate in architecture, design, development, and process discussions to elevate technical standards.
- Oversee operational metrics and provide robust support for team software deployments.
- Promote and implement best practices in software engineering throughout your teams and the broader organization.
- Exercise technical leadership by influencing multiple teams via collaborative projects and optimization of software engineering effectiveness.
- Lead design reviews within your organization and contribute actively to design discussions across Prime Video.
- Provide thorough code reviews and mentor engineers to improve code quality and technical skills.
Qualifications
- At least 7 years of professional engineering experience with a minimum of 3 years managing engineering teams.
- Over 8 years of experience leading the design and development of multi-tier web services.
- Comprehensive understanding of the software/hardware/network development lifecycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control, build pipelines, testing, certification, and live site operations.
- Proven experience collaborating with product and program management teams.

- Strong communication skills to gather requirements and explain technical designs and product strategies with users, technical teams, and senior leadership.
- Demonstrated success in hiring, mentoring, and managing software engineering teams to enhance their capabilities and productivity.
