Job description
About the Role
We are seeking a PR Manager to direct communications strategies for our Direct-to-Consumer (D2C) client portfolio. This leader will manage the narrative for rapidly expanding consumer brands, handling everything from product launches and founder visibility to managing crises and media relations. This position demands someone with expertise in crafting compelling stories while navigating the commercial demands of D2C brands characterized by speed, virality, and a noisy category landscape.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute comprehensive PR strategies for a selection of D2C clients, driving impactful media coverage through stories, interviews, and other formats.
- Establish and nurture strong connections with business, lifestyle, and category-specific journalists, editors, and key media platforms.
- Lead media engagement including outreach, press release creation, and pitch development aimed at securing real coverage, not just distribution.
- Oversee founder and spokesperson positioning through bylines, interviews, panel participation, and thought leadership initiatives.
- Proactively identify and handle reputational risks, leading crisis communication efforts when necessary.
- Work closely with client marketing and growth teams to synchronize PR activities with product launches, fundraising announcements, and marketing campaigns.
- Monitor and report on media coverage, share of voice, and campaign effectiveness, translating data into actionable insights for clients.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to a team of 3-4 associates and executives on pitching, media relations, and client management.
- Keep informed on evolving D2C industry trends, competitors, and changes in the media environment.
Candidate Profile
- Possess 5 to 7 years of significant PR experience, ideally in agencies serving D2C, consumer, or lifestyle brands.
- Demonstrate established, active media contacts, with at least 10 trusted journalists to prioritize in outreach.
- Exhibit superior writing and editorial skills in crafting pitches, press releases, and bylines that are original and impactful.
- Capable of managing multiple clients and stakeholders efficiently without overlooking details.
- Adaptable to fast-moving, lean-team settings where individual ownership outweighs formal hierarchy.
- Hold a nuanced understanding of how D2C PR diverges from traditional brand PR approaches.
