Overview
This role involves planning and executing investigations into various types of fraud within the banking sector, aiming to uphold quality and efficiency standards per Fraud Investigation (F&I) Division protocols. The manager works to minimize fraud-related losses by conducting thorough inquiries, collaborating with the Central Bank UAE through its online portal, and proactively implementing fraud prevention strategies across the bank.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct formal interviews with suspects and witnesses, taking statements in compliance with established F&I Division procedures.
- Act swiftly to halt fraudulent transactions to prevent loss to the bank or its customers, coordinating with relevant teams for fund recovery.
- Report fraud cases in line with Central Bank UAE's guidelines, continuously monitoring updates via their online portal to enable timely responses.
- Support investigation managers in identifying control gaps and designing corrective measures to enhance future fraud prevention.
- Help develop and enforce controls aimed at fraud deterrence, and contribute to fraud awareness training programs.
- Maintain meticulous documentation of investigations and generate necessary reports to assist both internal and external audits.
- Produce and distribute accurate Management Information System (MIS) reports related to Fraud Investigation finance timely.
- Collaborate with internal control units and external anti-fraud entities, such as police and Central Bank authorities, to strengthen investigative efforts.
- Respond promptly and professionally to all fraud-related communications including emails, calls, and complaints.
- Communicate findings and procedures effectively using clear, accessible language.
Work Environment and Relationships
This specialized position requires engagement across various departments in the bank while maintaining an unbiased and methodical approach during internal investigations. Responsibilities include detailed examination of case files ensuring sequence integrity and evidential soundness for legal admissibility. The role demands strict adherence to investigative methodologies including evidence preservation and accurate note-taking. Expertise in international fraud investigation standards and banking operations is essential, along with ongoing collaboration with local law enforcement and regulatory bodies.
Problem Solving and Innovation
- Exercise independent judgment and experience to make decisions aligning with F&I Division objectives.
- Apply strong analytical skills to interpret fraud data and produce MIS reports highlighting procedural vulnerabilities related to fraud risk.
- Utilize Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint tools to analyze information and communicate findings.
- Monitor regional fraud trends and liaise with Fraud Forums to collaboratively resolve issues.
Decision-Making Authority
- Lead fraud investigations objectively, recommending process improvements and staff suspensions where appropriate.
- Manage daily coordination with the Central Bank UAE regarding fraud updates and response queries.
- Securely handle evidence collection adhering to division guidelines.
- Take responsibility for minimizing fraud losses against the bank and its customers.
- Coordinate with law enforcement and represent the bank during court proceedings when necessary.
- Propose fraud write-offs based on investigation outcomes.
Qualifications and Experience
- Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) credential mandatory.
- At least four years of proven experience in fraud investigation.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting & Auditing, Criminal Justice, or a closely related discipline.
- Proficient interviewing and report-writing skills.
- Capable of managing stressful scenarios effectively.
- Strong multi-disciplinary analytical skills combining qualitative and quantitative approaches.
- Self-driven with a proactive mindset.
