Job Overview
The School Maintenance Worker is responsible for ensuring that all school facilities, grounds, and related equipment remain safe, clean, and operational. This role plays a key part in supporting an optimal learning environment through regular upkeep, repairs, and cleaning duties.
Primary Duties
- Carry out general maintenance tasks including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and HVAC repairs throughout the campus.
- Perform routine safety and maintenance inspections of buildings and outdoor areas.
- Maintain cleanliness in classrooms, restrooms, hallways, and communal spaces.
- Assist with the arrangement and removal of furniture and equipment for various school events.
- Monitor, organize, and replenish necessary supplies such as cleaning products, light bulbs, and air filters.
- Respond efficiently to maintenance requests submitted by school staff and administrators.
- Ensure all health, safety, and fire safety regulations are adhered to consistently.
- Work collaboratively with outside contractors and vendors when specialized repair or service is required.
- Keep detailed records of maintenance activities, safety inspections, and inventory management.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Possess a high school diploma or an equivalent credential.
- Demonstrate prior experience in building upkeep, custodial services, or similar areas.
- Have foundational skills in plumbing, electrical systems, and HVAC maintenance.
- Capable of handling physical tasks including lifting heavy items and operating maintenance tools.
- Exhibit strong attention to detail and effective problem-solving capabilities.
- Good interpersonal and teamwork skills are essential.
- Flexibility to work outside regular hours, occasionally including evenings or weekends.
Work Conditions
- Work will be performed both indoors and outdoors across the school campus.
- Exposure to cleaning chemicals, noise, and diverse weather conditions is expected.
- Job duties involve physical activities such as standing for long periods, bending, lifting, and climbing.
