Your role is crucial in keeping guest rooms, public areas, event venues, and back-of-house spaces in excellent condition, ensuring a safe and pleasant environment for guests and staff alike. This position involves proactive, hands-on property care focused on troubleshooting small maintenance issues before they escalate.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the final preparations before opening, including receiving, assembling, positioning, and inspecting hotel furniture, fixtures, and equipment.
  • Address maintenance requests from guests, staff, and departments swiftly and courteously to minimize disruption.
  • Conduct regular inspections of guest rooms, communal spaces, meeting and event venues, the pub, operational back areas, and external access points.
  • Execute scheduled preventative maintenance tasks following hotel standards across all areas.
  • Perform minor repairs and maintenance such as plumbing, lighting, hardware fixes, drywall patching, painting, furniture upkeep, door and lock repairs, and bathroom fixture maintenance.
  • Troubleshoot basic guestroom equipment issues, HVAC controls, appliances, and building fixtures; escalate complex mechanical, electrical, HVAC, or safety concerns to qualified professionals.
  • Support maintenance and setup for meeting rooms, event locations, and dining outlets, including furniture and equipment repairs and event logistics.
  • Maintain well-organized maintenance storage including tools, supplies, and spare parts, and report low inventory promptly.
  • Document maintenance activities, inspections, repairs, and ongoing issues via hotel work order and maintenance tracking systems.
  • Coordinate with and oversee vendors and contractors, ensuring quality of repair and project completion.
  • Identify and report hazards such as damage, leaks, equipment failures, or unsafe conditions immediately to leadership.
  • Assist with seasonal property maintenance including ensuring safe pathways and basic exterior upkeep related to weather conditions.
  • Adhere to all hotel, health and safety, WHMIS, and emergency response protocols.
  • Collaborate effectively with front desk, housekeeping, food and beverage, and leadership teams to maintain operational excellence.

Candidate Profile

You are a dependable and practical individual who enjoys hands-on maintenance work. You recognize and address issues promptly and value the impact of detail on guest satisfaction. Prior experience in general maintenance, building operations, or hospitality-related environments is highly beneficial, with preference for those experienced in hotel or restaurant maintenance. You are proficient with hand and power tools and capable of performing routine repairs, painting, minor plumbing, basic carpentry, and general troubleshooting while knowing when to escalate to specialists.

Physically, you can handle lifting items up to 50 pounds unaided and perform tasks involving standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and reaching. Flexibility to work varied shifts including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays is required. WHMIS certification, Working at Heights training, First Aid, or trade-related qualifications will be considered advantageous.
