Role Summary
The Maintenance Technician will ensure that the living areas at SPACE St Andrews remain in optimal condition by addressing daily maintenance needs, from simple repairs to preparing rooms for new residents.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform general repairs including plumbing, carpentry, painting, and minor electrical tasks.
- Rapidly respond to resident maintenance requests and strive to resolve them on the first visit.
- Conduct regular inspections and carry out preventative maintenance schedules.
- Assist in the upkeep and checks of mechanical and electrical systems.
- Manage and coordinate external contractors ensuring quality work delivery.
- Maintain organized records of maintenance activities, tools, equipment, and inventory.
- Support compliance with health and safety standards.
- Ensure plant rooms, bin areas, and back-of-house locations are safe and tidy.
- Help the team during peak busy times, especially during student move-ins, move-outs, and summer turnovers.
Person Specification
This role involves working in residents' homes; therefore, being approachable, respectful, and professional is vital. Clear communication on tasks, respecting personal spaces, and leaving work areas neat are essential.
The ideal candidate is observant and proactive, addressing issues before they escalate. Previous experience in maintenance, facilities, or trade roles is preferred, alongside skills to handle various routine repairs efficiently.
Being practical, well-organized, and capable of prioritizing tasks independently while also collaborating with the team is crucial. Although not mandatory, relevant trade qualifications, experience in student accommodations or residential settings, and certifications such as IOSH or NEBOSH would be beneficial.
Above all, a strong commitment to quality work and enhancing the resident experience is desired.
