Job Overview

This Maintenance Fitter position is a full-time role on rotating shifts (days, evenings, nights) based at a well-established manufacturing facility in County Galway, Ireland. The company is renowned for its commitment to operational excellence and continuous investment in plant reliability. The role reports to the Engineering Manager and involves ensuring the mechanical maintenance of the plant contributes to optimal production uptime and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement preventative maintenance programs to maintain plant uptime and support continuous production.
  • Drive mechanical performance metrics that link technical reliability to commercial success.
  • Conduct root cause analyses to transform reactive maintenance into long-term reliability improvements.
  • Identify risks and potential issues throughout mechanical systems before failures occur.
  • Collaborate with production, new product development, and trial teams to ensure mechanical systems align with operational priorities.
  • Carry out machinery modifications aimed at enhancing throughput, safety, and efficiency.
  • Provide coverage during production runs to ensure uninterrupted operations.
  • Lead continuous improvement projects to elevate plant performance standards continually.
  • Maintain strict compliance with safety and regulatory requirements during all maintenance activities.
  • Manage the engineering budget by balancing cost efficiency and maintenance quality.
  • Mentor and develop skills of the engineering and maintenance team members.
  • Work alongside multidisciplinary project teams to execute site-wide engineering projects.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Trade certification or engineering degree in a mechanical discipline.
  • Prior maintenance experience in industrial or manufacturing settings.
  • Comprehensive understanding of industrial machinery and production line mechanical systems.
  • Proven experience executing preventative maintenance within structured frameworks.
  • Strong hands-on skills diagnosing and fixing manufacturing equipment faults.
  • Good knowledge of production processes and the role of mechanical reliability.
  • Proactive problem identification and effective timely resolution abilities.
  • Advanced troubleshooting expertise for mechanical and plant systems.
  • Knowledgeable in health, safety, and relevant regulatory standards for industrial maintenance.
  • Excellent communication skills to engage with engineering, production, and leadership teams.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within engineering teams.
  • Competent with IT and computer systems for maintenance documentation and reporting.
