Role Overview

As a Maintenance Engineer reporting directly to the Engineering Manager, your primary responsibility will be to ensure the ongoing safe and reliable function of all production machinery, equipment, and facility infrastructure. This role is very hands-on and involves performing preventive maintenance, diagnosing and fixing breakdown faults, making equipment improvements, and managing various smaller engineering projects. You will also support clearing the existing backlog of maintenance and engineering tasks across the facility.

Key Duties

• Assist in completing outstanding engineering and facilities maintenance work.
• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on production equipment.
• Identify mechanical issues and execute effective breakdown repairs.
• Repair or replace defective components as needed.
• Conduct routine inspections of equipment and facilities to uncover potential problems.
• Implement practical enhancements to machinery and facility services.
• Support installation and commissioning of new machinery and devices.
• Assist in equipment relocation and manufacturing expansion initiatives.
• Interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and equipment manuals.
• Adhere strictly to health and safety guidelines, GMP regulations, and site protocols during maintenance tasks.
• Document maintenance activities, repairs, inspections, and parts usage accurately.
• Use the MEX maintenance management system to record and close jobs.
• Complete all required paper-based maintenance and GMP documentation.
• Maintain cleanliness and safety of work areas after completing repair tasks.

Candidate Profile

• Minimum of three years’ maintenance experience, preferably in pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, food, FMCG, or similarly regulated manufacturing sectors.
• Relevant trade certificate or qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Maintenance Engineering, Fitting and Turning, or an allied discipline.
• Proven practical experience as a Maintenance Engineer or Mechanical Fitter.
• Strong mechanical ability with excellent troubleshooting skills.
• Experienced in fault diagnosis and equipment repairs.
• Familiarity with preventive maintenance programs.
• Competent in reading technical schematics, drawings, and equipment documentation.
• Confident in using hand tools, power tools, and workshop machinery.
• Committed to safe working practices and delivering quality work.
• Effective written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a diverse team.
• Organized and capable of managing multiple maintenance priorities effectively.
• Skilled at maintaining accurate electronic and paper maintenance records.

Experience within GMP or cGMP regulated environments is highly regarded. Candidates with dual qualifications in mechanical and electrical trades are preferred. Support may be provided to obtain an electrical practising licence if relevant. Holding current New Zealand welding certificates, including MIG or TIG welding, is advantageous but not mandatory.

Work Details

The position is based at the Pukekohe manufacturing plant in Auckland with primary working hours from 12:00 pm to 8:30 pm Monday through Friday to cover components of morning and evening shifts. Some flexibility in scheduling may be available.
