Job Summary

The Maintenance Custodian will be responsible for custodial tasks and building maintenance across the Waterbury campus. This role includes troubleshooting mechanical issues, responding as the first line of defense during emergencies, and serving as the primary on-call contact.

Primary Duties

  • Maintain floors through sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and vacuuming as necessary.
  • Clean and supply restrooms, lavatories, and showers regularly.
  • Dust and polish furniture, fixtures, walls, machines, and metal trims.
  • Wash windows, glass partitions, and mirrors thoroughly.
  • Adhere to cleaning schedules and quality control standards, completing tasks efficiently.
  • Perform light maintenance and building improvements as needed.
  • Keep and update a preventative maintenance log to ensure smooth operation of equipment and facilities.
  • Promptly report malfunctioning or broken equipment.
  • Collaborate with program managers to assess facility requirements and special accommodations.
  • Coordinate with external contractors regarding meetings and special projects.
  • Conduct outdoor maintenance such as litter pickup and sweeping sidewalks and steps.
  • Assist with snow removal and salt spreading during winter conditions.
  • Be available to work overtime as required.
  • Support special events and functions.
  • Serve as the primary on-call resource for emergencies.
  • Communicate respectfully and professionally with diverse cultural groups, embracing individuality with integrity and fairness.
  • Promote teamwork by working cooperatively to set goals, solve problems, and enhance program success.
  • Maintain consistent attendance and reliability.
  • Carry out additional duties as assigned by supervisors or management.

Work Schedule and Compensation

  • Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 12:00 PM and 12:30 PM to 4:00 PM.
  • 40 hours per week, including mandatory on-call emergency coverage.
  • Wage rate of $27.40 per hour, equating to an annual salary of approximately $57,000.
  • Eligible for overtime pay at time-and-a-half.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • At least 2 years of experience in facility maintenance is mandatory.
  • Must be the first responder for maintenance emergencies.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow shop service manuals for grounds equipment and perform maintenance on machinery.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license to operate company vehicles when necessary.
  • Capability to work with minimal supervision and independently.
  • Willingness to work overtime as needed.
  • Physical ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
