Position Overview
This Auckland-based opportunity invites you to play a crucial role in shaping the future trajectory of NZ Post's Mail division. As the mail industry undergoes significant transformation influenced by evolving customer expectations, technological advances, and dynamic market conditions, this role provides the unique chance to work closely with senior leadership to steer strategic decisions and enterprise-level priorities.
You will collaborate with the GM Mail Transition and leaders from departments such as Commercial, Finance, Enterprise Strategy, Network, Regulatory, and Digital & Technology. Your key responsibility will be to convert strategic goals into tangible roadmaps, insightful executive narratives, and actionable recommendations to drive long-term value creation for NZ Post.
This role transcends traditional program management by requiring a leader capable of bringing order to complexity and ambiguity, synthesizing diverse viewpoints into clear, strategic action plans.
Key Duties
- Create high-quality executive presentations, Board documents, discussion papers, and briefing materials that facilitate informed strategic decisions.
- Translate strategic goals into well-defined timelines, priorities, milestones, and dependencies.
- Evaluate strategic options, risks, opportunities, and trade-offs to support effective decision-making.
- Track trends in customer behavior, market conditions, industry developments, and regulatory changes to identify emerging risks and opportunities.
- Integrate complex input from multiple stakeholders to deliver clear insights and recommendations.
- Coordinate contributions from Commercial, Finance, Strategy, Network, Regulatory, and Technology teams to develop a unified enterprise perspective.
- Assist governance committees and monitor key decisions, dependencies, risks, and actions.
- Monitor progress against strategic priorities ensuring sustained focus on desired outcomes and benefits.
Candidate Profile
- Exceptional skills in executive communication and storytelling, adept at simplifying complex, ambiguous issues into clear and persuasive materials.
- Strong strategic thinking ability with competence in analyzing alternatives, recognizing trade-offs, questioning assumptions, and linking long-term vision to actionable plans.
- Experience engaging with senior executives, governance bodies, and organizational leaders in decision-making contexts.
- Influential stakeholder management skills to harmonize diverse viewpoints and foster progress without direct authority.
- Structured problem-solving methodology ensuring robust information gathering, insight synthesis, and evidence-backed recommendations.
- Solid commercial understanding of how strategic choices affect value creation, customer satisfaction, and business performance.
Preferred Experience
- Background in strategy and transformation, corporate strategy, internal or management consulting, Chief of Staff roles, enterprise change, or transformation functions.
- Experience within commercial planning or strategy departments, or Strategy/Transformation Offices.
- Familiarity with logistics, postal, infrastructure, transport, or other complex network-driven sectors is advantageous but not mandatory.
