Localization Engineer

About the Role

Join a pioneering initiative as a Localization Engineer focused on Arabic-first game development based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This role entails establishing the localization engineering function from scratch to support a major global gaming company's move towards prioritizing Arabic language inclusion in games. Unlike typical roles that adapt existing pipelines, you will create and lead the entire localization engineering workflow.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and implement the localization engineering stack within Unity from the ground up.
• Develop proper handling of Arabic text including right-to-left (RTL) and bidirectional text, shaping, ligatures, fallback fonts, text expansion, and mirroring layouts.
• Manage the pipeline that encompasses string extraction, management, integration into game builds, automated verifications, and pseudo-localization.
• Work closely with QA teams to maintain high-quality localization standards at scale by identifying and resolving issues early.
• Define and implement tooling and standards for game development teams to build upon.
• Engage deeply with coding tasks daily, designing robust systems, writing production-level code, and validating their performance under real-world conditions.

Candidate Profile

• Experienced engineer in Unity and C# with shipped game projects demonstrating production-ready, maintainable code.
• Prior involvement in developing localization, text rendering, or tooling systems; expertise with Arabic and RTL text handling is highly advantageous.
• Knowledgeable in text processing pipelines, build system integration, automation, and collaborative QA processes.
• Strong focus on performance optimization, memory management, and scalability beyond basic functionality.
• Willingness to relocate to Riyadh and contribute to building this capability from scratch.
• Arabic language skills and familiarity with MENA region localization are beneficial but not mandatory.
