Job description
Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced Software Engineer specialized in LiDAR-based mapping and HD map toolchains to spearhead and support the creation of scalable mapping workflows for autonomous robotic systems. Initially, the main focus will be enhancing and scaling LiDAR mapping pipelines, also contributing to HD map production and related tooling. This position allows for expansion into wider software integration tasks within autonomous and robotics projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Enhance and scale existing LiDAR mapping workflows to enable the creation of extensive, high-quality maps.
- Automate processes for LiDAR map generation, including cleaning and post-processing, to boost efficiency and uniformity.
- Create tools that facilitate map validation, visualization, and overall management.
- Participate in generating and integrating HD maps using formats like Lanelet2 and OpenDRIVE.
- Develop and maintain internal toolchains for HD map editing, alignment, and version control.
- Guarantee that produced maps comply with quality benchmarks and are compatible with autonomous system integration.
- Work closely with teams handling localization, planning, and infrastructure to deliver production-ready mapping solutions.
- Support broader software integration and development initiatives related to robotics as needed.
Qualifications & Skills
- Demonstrated expertise in visual or LiDAR-based mapping along with map processing workflows.
- Strong knowledge in point cloud processing, feature extraction, registration, and optimization techniques for mapping.
- Hands-on experience with SLAM and localization packages such as Cartographer, LIO-SAM, FAST-LIO, or LeGO-LOAM.
- Familiarity with HD map standards like Lanelet2, OpenDRIVE, or other equivalent technologies.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and C++ for developing tools and backend components.
- Comprehensive understanding of robotics software frameworks, particularly practical skills in ROS and ROS2.
- Experience working within Linux environments and familiarity with tools like Docker and Git.
Education
- A Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Software Engineering, or a closely related discipline is required.
