Established in 1981, Carlos O'Kelly's restaurant is celebrated for its Mexican cuisine crafted from scratch, including oven-baked dishes and signature items like legendary margaritas, house-made chips, queso, and salsa. Role Overview
The Line Cook, as part of the kitchen crew, plays a vital role in delighting guests by preparing visually appealing and tasty food. This position involves managing assigned prep tasks and handling a specific cooking station while adhering strictly to quality, presentation, and timing standards. Team members will receive cross-training to gain proficiency across all kitchen departments, enhancing skills in leadership, business, and hospitality.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare menu items accurately according to Carlos O'Kelly's detailed recipes, presentations, and specifications (approximately 50% of duties).
- Complete designated prep assignments essential to kitchen operations (about 15% of duties).
- Arrange and set up workstation following established station layouts (roughly 15% of duties).
- Maintain stringent sanitary practices and safe food handling continuously (around 10% of duties).
- Clean and sanitize work areas before, during, and after shifts (roughly 5% of duties).
- Execute daily and weekly cleaning projects as assigned (about 5% of duties).
Required Qualifications & Skills
- A positive and eager mindset with willingness to learn and progress within the role.
- Physical ability to place kitchen items such as plates, utensils, pans, and cases on both high and low shelves.
- Competency in reading, writing, and verbal communication to follow instructions accurately.
- Proficiency in using knives, slicing tools, and various food prep equipment safely.
- Sustained mobility throughout the full shift to meet role demands.
- Capability to transport cases weighing up to 50 pounds multiple times daily (up to 20 times).
- Ability to respond swiftly and appropriately in emergency situations to ensure safety.
Physical Demands
This role requires regular movement around the restaurant, interacting with guests, lifting and moving items up to five pounds frequently and occasionally up to 25 pounds, as well as bending and stooping. Adequate vision is necessary to maintain cleanliness standards and operate touchscreen systems. Accommodations will be considered for candidates with disabilities.
