Job description

About the Role

The Debug team at Google consists of an interdisciplinary group including mosquito biologists, data scientists, engineers, and operations specialists dedicated to innovating solutions to diminish mosquito-borne diseases globally. This role focuses on the deployment and assessment of Wolbachia-infected mosquitoes to prevent disease transmission.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct behavioral and physiological bioassays both in insectary and field environments to evaluate Wolbachia mosquitoes' quality and competitiveness.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to diagnose and address issues impacting mosquito quality.
  • Evaluate the effects of novel rearing methods and equipment on production output and mosquito fitness metrics.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Entomology, Biological Sciences, or a closely related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • At least two years of experience in insect biology.

Preferred Experience

  • A minimum of two years' experience with mass insect rearing.
  • Familiarity with pest control applications.
  • Proficiency in basic molecular biology techniques such as DNA extraction.
  • Experience utilizing data analysis tools such as Google Sheets, R, Python, or similar platforms to support everyday operations and reporting.
  • Capability to operate effectively in fast-paced settings and adapt working hours flexibly to meet project deadlines.
