Job description

About The Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic and community-oriented individual to join our Arts, Culture and Lifelong Learning (ACLL) team in the position of Library/Service Centre Site Coordinator. This is a full-time fixed term position available until January 31, 2027, with working days from Tuesday to Saturday. The role is primarily based at Lincoln Library and Service Centre, playing a vital role in supporting both our team members and the delivery of services.

While overseeing daily operations of the site is a fundamental aspect, the core focus of this role is people. We want someone who enjoys uniting a team, nurturing a positive environment, and fostering a space where individuals feel supported, valued, and empowered to excel in their work.

The successful candidate will be an approachable and visible leader who cultivates strong relationships, encourages collaboration, and helps build a workplace where everyone can confidently contribute.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the everyday running of Lincoln Library and Service Centre to maintain smooth operations.
  • Keep the facility inviting, safe, lively, and well-maintained for all visitors and staff.
  • Promote a supportive team atmosphere based on trust, cooperation, inclusiveness, and mutual responsibility.
  • Exemplify excellent customer service and drive high standards in service delivery.
  • Work alongside colleagues to maintain consistent staffing and quality services throughout the district’s library and service centres.
  • Occasionally work at other branch locations including Te Ara Ātea, Leeston, and Darfield Library & Service Centres, as required.

About Our Team Culture

At Selwyn Libraries, our team is like a family (whānau), embracing diversity and championing inclusion. We bring varied backgrounds, knowledge, interests, and passions into a collaborative work environment. We support and celebrate successes together while continually seeking shared learning opportunities to strengthen our community spaces.

We encourage and welcome applicants from all backgrounds, ethnicities, genders, sexual orientations, abilities, and experiences. Even if you don’t meet every requirement, your unique perspective is valuable to us, and we invite you to apply.

Candidate Profile

  • Possess at least 3 to 4 years of experience in library, customer service, or community-related roles, including leadership or people coordination.
  • Exhibit a collaborative and empowering style of leadership.
  • Demonstrate strong ability to develop relationships and build trust within teams.
  • Capable of supporting, motivating, and fostering others positively and inclusively.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficient with digital tools and technology.
  • Show sound judgment, adaptability, and maintain a calm, solution-oriented approach.
  • Committed to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi with an understanding of Te Ao Māori.
  • Hold a full, clean New Zealand driver’s licence.

What We Offer

  • Flexible working arrangements promoting work-life balance.
  • Opportunities for career coaching and professional development.
  • Paid leave of three days between Christmas and New Year.
  • Two weeks of paid Partners Leave.
  • Sick leave entitlement effective from day one of employment.
  • Continuation of KiwiSaver contributions during periods of savings suspension.
  • Access to discounts at local and national businesses.
